Google Chrome is a freeware web browser developed by Google Inc.[citation needed] and competes with Microsoft Edge, Opera, Safari, and Firefox. The current version of Google Chrome is Chrome 61,[1] and is available for Windows, Linux, macOS, iOS, and Android. It is also the main component and web app platform for Chrome OS.

Features[]

Google Chrome has its own app and extension store similar to that of Firefox, with major noticeable differences.[citation needed] Along with that, Chrome has browser-exclusive pages such as Apps and Settings that use the URI scheme chrome://.[citation needed]

Google Chrome also has a bottom toolbar that is sometimes shown for displaying downloads.[citation needed]

History[]

Google Chrome was first publicly released on September 2, 2008 for Microsoft Windows, and was later ported to Linux and macOS in 2009.[citation needed]
